Late last month, a motorcyclist was seriously hurt when he was hit near the corner of Fairfield Avenue and Whittier Street in Bridgeport’s Black Rock neighborhood. The injured motorcyclist was rushed to St. Vincent’s Medical Center in very serious condition. Initially, his injuries were thought to be life threatening, and it is unknown if doctors expect him to survive. Police were initially waiting to release information about the crash until after the biker’s family had been contacted.

The Connecticut Post reported that the early morning crash happened when the biker was hit by a car. It is not entirely clear what led up to the crash, but it does appear that the driver of the car may have been responsible.

Anyone who drives on Bridgeport’s roads has a duty to other motorists to avoid accidents. Drivers must do everything in their power to drive responsibly and safely, which means paying attention to the road and focusing on the task at hand. Distractions and recklessness can all lead to serious accidents in which someone could be very seriously injured.

While car accidents are often tragic, anyone who is injured by a negligent driver does have legal recourse. A car accident victim can work with an experienced attorney to file a personal injury lawsuit and hold the negligent driver responsible. He or she can get compensation for any medical bills, pain and suffering, or other damages suffered in the accident. And, in the worst-case scenario, if the victim dies, his or her family members can file a wrongful death lawsuit.

As for the motorcyclist, it remains to be seen how he and his family will handle this accident.
