Multi-vehicle Connecticut car accident causes 2 fatalities

Multiple lane freeways and highways can be very dangerous due to the speeds of travel and the amount of vehicles in numerous lanes. Drivers should take extra caution at intersections where vehicles are exiting and entering the freeway. Sadly, fatalities occurred on a Connecticut interstate earlier this week after a multi-vehicle accident near an entrance ramp on I-95. Police are still trying to determine exactly what caused the terrible car collision.

The accident occurred in Old Lyme on I-95. Two women, who were passengers in one of the eight vehicles involved in the accident, were killed in the collision. The driver of that vehicle was rushed to the nearest hospital with serious injuries. Among the list of vehicles involved, a tractor-trailer is said to have slammed into the guardrail before catching fire and spilling soda all over the interstate. Another tractor-trailer was involved as well as six other passenger vehicles.

For this reason, the police are calling this multi-vehicle accident a mass casualty due to the number of people affected by the incident. The authorities on the scene are in the middle of an investigation to determine exactly what caused the numerous vehicles to pile up and hit each other, causing the awful fatalities and injuries.

Families of the deceased will certainly be seeking answers as well as the general public. Hopefully, the investigation can shed some light on the incident in order to better avoid such an accident in the future.

When accidents like this occur that involve so many vehicles and affected parties, it can be very frightening for other drivers. Likely, many drivers involved in the crash were just at the wrong place at the wrong time and were properly obeying the rules of the road. It did help that everyone was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident, which hopefully helped prevent other injuries and fatalities. After the authorities complete their investigation, they will shed more light on the cause and reasons for the crash.
