Pedestrian fatality in hit-an-run accident in Greenwich

Traveling by foot is not uncommon for Connecticut residents. In fact, many prefer walking or running in order to spend time outside and add more exercise to their life. No matter the reason a person is walking on a sidewalk or on the side of the road, the reality is that most pedestrians walk near motor vehicle traffic. This can pose some serious risks, especially if a driver is not attentive or isn’t following the rules of the road.

According to recent reports, a fatal pedestrian crash occurred in Greenwich. Based on preliminary reports, the accident happened on I-95 going southbound near exit six. After reports of a car and pedestrian accident were called just before 10:00 a.m., police responded to the scene and began diverting traffic.

The pedestrian was pronounced dead when emergency crews arrived at the scene. Because the driver of the vehicle fled the scene, it was not clear to authorities how the accident occurred. At the time of the accident, there were reports of rain in the area. However, it is not clear if this was a factor in the crash.

Once investigation is complete, cause and liability can be established. When a negligent driver causes a fatal accident, that driver could be held accountable for the losses and damages caused in the accident. Surviving loved ones could file a wrongful death claim, helping them recover compensation for funeral costs, lost wages and loss of companionship.

A hit-and-run accident is a difficult event to be involved in. This is especially true when a loved one is lost in the crash. While it is challenging to deal with the unknown and endless questions, surviving family members should understand that they have options and opportunities to protect their rights.
