Motorists are held to a high standard when driving in areas where pedestrians frequent. Motorists not only have a duty to drive safely, but also to yield to pedestrians crossing the road. The failure to do so could result in a serious pedestrian accident.

This is what recently occurred in Manchester. Authorities in Connecticut reported that a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road. The victim is a 38-year-old female, and the vehicle hit her at night at the intersection of Main Street and Center Street. The victim suffered serious injuries as a result of the collision and was treated immediately by paramedics at the scene of the crash. She was then transported to the hospital, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

Authorities reported that they located the driver of the vehicle that struck the woman. The 20-year-old male is cooperating with the investigation. However, it is unclear if any charges were filed against him. Once the investigation is complete, law enforcement officials may be able to determine the exact cause of the crash. With the help of witness account, any surveillance footage or expert testimony, a victim could hold a negligent driver accountable for the harm caused by the accident.

Following a pedestrian accident, it is important to understand your rights as a victim and what recourses are available to you. A personal injury claim could help you hold a negligent party accountable and recover compensation for damages, such as medical bills, pain and suffering, lost wages and rehabilitation.
