There are numerous dangers on the road in Connecticut. People who are operating their vehicles recklessly, negligently or are under the influence are a constant threat to have an accident. When there is a crash, it is imperative that the drivers stay at the scene to ensure that everyone involved in safe and to call for medical attention if it is needed. When there is a combination of drunk driving accidents and the driver flees the scene, the aftermath can be terrible for the victims. They must be sure that they protect themselves by considering a legal filing to be compensated.
The driver of a food truck was arrested after he had two separate accidents and fled both scenes. In one, the people in the other vehicle — a husband and wife — were sent to the hospital. The accidents occurred not long after 7 p.m. In the first, a white GMC Sierra crashed into a vehicle in the parking lot of a liquor store. The person whose car was hit took photos of the truck’s license plate as it fled. There was a second crash in which the injured couple was rear-ended as they sat at a stop sign. They saw the name of the company on the side of the pickup as it drove on the sidewalk to get away from the scene. In the process, the female passenger of the car was almost hit again.
Law enforcement traced the image taken to a 28-year-old man. The vehicle had damage to its front and a front tire was gone. There were beer bottles in the vehicle and the driver’s insurance was expired. The man was arrested for multiple charges related to driving under the influence, fleeing the scene of an accident, and not having insurance. The people who were hurt — a 51-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman — were taken to the hospital for treatment.
When people are hit by a drunk driver, there are many issues that will come to the forefront. They could be seriously hurt and require long hospitalization and treatment. They could miss time at work and require extended care from family members. The medical expenses and personal costs could be astronomical. If there is evidence that it was due to a drunk driver, this can be vital to the investigation and filing a lawsuit. Injuries can sometimes take some time to manifest themselves, so even those who do not believe they were seriously hurt should consider a legal filing. A lawyer experienced in helping those injured in a drunk driving crash can be of assistance.
