Driver flees scene after fatal pedestrian accident in Connecticut

Stories about accidents involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian in Connecticut have become commonplace. Reports about these crashes are prominent largely because they happen so frequently. Cars and pedestrians must share the road, but unfortunately, there are many drivers who are distracted, speeding, are under the influence, or simply do not exercise the proper amount of caution to make certain pedestrians remain safe. This leads to crashes. Since pedestrians are not protected, they will often suffer severe - and even fatal - injuries. Some of the worst kinds of accidents are hit-and-run pedestrian accidents. This is not only a violation of the law, but it also betrays human decency. After an accident in which a pedestrian was injured or a loved one was lost, it is critical to understand how to pursue compensation in a lawsuit.

A 64-year-old man died after he was hit by a car that fled the scene. The accident happened at approximately 4 p.m. Emergency personnel were called to the scene and found the man with severe injuries that were believed to be life-threatening. He was taken for treatment and died. According to the initial investigation, a silver Toyota Avalon is believed to be the vehicle that struck the man and fled. It has four doors, tinted windows and a sunroof. It is also believed that the vehicle has windshield and front-end damage stemming from the crash.

Accidents are sometimes unavoidable, but the driver of a car that hits a pedestrian is obligated to stop and check on the person who was hit. To fail in that requirement is a criminal act and can also cost a person his or her life when there is a chance that immediate treatment could have made a difference. Pedestrians are inherently at risk of being hurt when hit by a vehicle. Often, these injuries are significant enough that even if he or she survives, it will be necessary to have medical treatment and long-term care all day, every day. The ability to work and contribute to a family will be compromised. If there is a fatality, the family will need to learn to move on without their loved one.

A Toyota is the suspected vehicle in a hit-and-run crash that killed an older pedestrian and left the scene. As law enforcement seeks out the driver, the family of the man who was killed should make sure they are protected if they want to consider seeking compensation. A law firm that understands all the aspects of pedestrian accidents can help with a claim.
