Firefighter injured on the job after lightning causes fire

Whether a worker in Fairfield and throughout Connecticut works in a job that has inherent dangers or is in a sedentary "safe" job, there is always a chance that there will be a workplace injury accident. This can come in many ways and afflict any area of the person's body. Similarly, the aftereffects can vary.

For some, they can get treatment and be back on the job in short order. For others, the injuries can be long lasting and cause them to miss significant time and need extensive treatment to get back on the job, if they can get back on the job at all. Fortunately, workers' compensation benefits are available to help. But, knowing how to get these benefits is a foundational aspect to maximizing them.

First responders know their jobs are risky, but they accept that responsibility. The danger was shown in a recent incident when a firefighter suffered severe burns to his face as he was fighting a fire. The incident happened at approximately 6:40 p.m. when a fire, stemming from a lightning strike, began.

The firefighters went to the scene and saw smoke emanating from a garage. The firefighters fought the fire and, in the process, one firefighter was injured. His facial injuries were said to be serious, but not life-threatening. He was hospitalized.

With any workplace injury, the medical issues are one part of the problem. The other part is making ends meet while unable to get back on the job. Treatment for injuries can be costly with surgical procedures, long hospitalizations and monitoring. Being unable to work might place the person at risk of falling behind on bills, experiencing financial turmoil and having serious problems that compound the injuries.

Workers' compensation benefits provide for medical treatment and for lost wages. However, there are sometimes disagreements as to the extent of the injuries, who is at fault and how much should be paid for medical care and wages. When there is a dispute or confusion, legal help is a must.

A firefighter was burned when he and his colleagues were fighting a fire that started because of lightning. He suffered burns to his face. With burns, there might be the need for skin grafting and permanent scarring. Getting back to work can be an issue. For a first responder or anyone else who was injured on the job, a law firm experienced in workers' compensation claims can be of assistance.
