Hit-and-run bicycle accident injures Connecticut woman

Bicyclists in Connecticut might take all the necessary precautions to remain safe. That includes adhering to the rules of the road, wearing safety equipment and making sure they are fully visible with reflective clothing. However, some drivers will not pay attention to bicyclists around them and will strike a bicyclist. The crash itself is bad enough, but when the driver does not remain at the scene to make sure the rider is safe or to call for help if he or she is not, the situation becomes even more serious.

A 52-year-old woman was hit by a pickup truck as she rode her bicycle in Branford, Connecticut. The vehicle subsequently fled the scene making it a hit-and-run. The woman suffered serious injuries and was hospitalized. The vehicle was eventually found, but it has not yet been reported whether the driver of the truck has been located. The woman suffered severe trauma and a GoFundMe page was started to help her. She had multiple broken bones including a broken neck.

Even the most careful bicyclists are vulnerable to severe injuries and death in a crash with a car. The lack of protection that a bicyclist has is inherent, and there is little to do to improve it. When there is an accident between a bicyclist and a car, the bicyclist can suffer broken bones, brain trauma, spinal cord damage and much more. It can cost a significant amount of money to receive medical treatment for these types of injuries, and the bicyclist might end up needing help with the most basic tasks if he or she is lucky enough to survive.

While some might use a charity drive to get financial help to cover the costs, this may not be enough to cover all the damages the bicyclist suffered. When it comes to car accidents involving a bicycle, a legal filing can be useful in pursuing compensation for the medical expenses as well as all else that was lost.
