Millions Recovered For Injured People

Loss of a loved one before and after pregnancy highly preventable

Expecting parents and those who have a newborn in Connecticut are enthusiastic about the entire process. However, it is frequently forgotten that the process of having a child can pose risks to the mother and child. When there is an unexpected death after giving birth, legal advice is important when considering a lawsuit for compensation.

A recent report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention shows that mothers are increasingly at risk of death during and after childbirth. According to the report, an estimated 700 women die due to complications or mistakes during pregnancy and childbirth each year in the United States. In these cases, 31% die while they are pregnant, 36% die while giving birth or within one week after, and 33% die in the year after they have given birth. More troubling is the assessment that around 60% of these deaths could have been prevented.

The CDC says that diagnostic errors, failure to spot warning signs, and a lack of healthcare are major factors in these numbers. In its research, a pregnancy-related fatality is categorized as happening due to childbirth or pregnancy complications; a series of events that came about from the pregnancy; or a condition that was not viewed as related to the pregnancy but became worse because of it.

Embolisms and severe bleeding were the most frequent causes of maternal deaths during childbirth. In the subsequent week, high blood pressure, bleeding and infections were the most frequent causes. For those who died within the year after birth, weakening of the heart muscles were a common cause.

The joy of a new baby can be destroyed by the sudden and unexpected death of the mother. If the death was caused by complications from the childbirth, it is imperative to have a full investigation into the case to determine if a medical malpractice lawsuit is in order. A law firm that specializes in helping those who have been impacted by a wrongful death should be contacted when considering a claim.
