Fatal crash on Interstate 95 leaves 1 dead

It’s tragic when a person loses their life in a traffic collision. In many cases, highway collisions happen when tractor-trailers can’t stop or when drivers don’t realize that another vehicle is present. Those crashes often lead to serious injuries and deaths due to the weight discrepancies between the two vehicles.

A 26-year-old woman from Shelton was killed when her vehicle was rear-ended by a tractor trailer on Interstate 95 in Fairfield. The news report indicates that the woman was heading south when the other vehicle collided with her. Her vehicle was pinned under the front end of the truck’s trailer.

Unfortunately, the woman did not survive the collision and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 36-year-old man from Florida, did suffer some minor injuries as well but did not require treatment in the hospital.

The tractor-trailer also reportedly caught on fire after the crash, which resulted in traffic being rerouted for several hours following the collision.

This kind of incident is horrible to imagine. The difference between the sizes and weights of these vehicles makes it likely that the smaller vehicle will sustain serious damage in a collision. As you can see, these crashes can result in fatalities.

If you take the highway often and are around large trucks, remember to give the drivers more time to stop, and always try to make yourself known to them. If they do hit you unexpectedly or you lose a loved one in a crash like this one, remember that you can pursue a claim against the negligent driver.
